Joey meets Kate, the first woman who didn't like him back. They still have scenes to rehearse, which involve deep, passionate kissing, but something's missing according to the director. After being refused by Kate, who it turns out is involved with the director, Joey hooks up with Kate's understudy, Lauren.

Monica and Pete are going out together. Monica thinks Pete is great, except for one thing - she's not sexually attracted to him in any way. She can't even bring herself to kiss him (except on the cheek), but instead touches him with friendly moves like tousles and pats.

Rachel loves her new job at Bloomingdale's, as she's working in the fashion field like she always wanted to. But Ross is less than happy, mostly because her new colleague, Mark, is tall and handsome and he fears that he wants to take Rachel away from him.

The guy living above Monica and Rachel has removed the carpets on his floor, and he's too loud for the girls to stand. Phoebe tries taking a stand, but as Monica already pointed out, he's too charming to intimidate, and Phoebe starts going out with him.

When Gunther tells Rachel that Terry wants her to take training again, Rachel realizes how much she hates her job. Chandler and Joey talk her into quitting, which she does. She regrets this soon after, when she's still without a lead on her career a day before her last one as a waitress at Central Perk.

It is Thanksgiving and after watching a football match, they decide to play football. Monica and Ross tell the others that they are not allowed to play as Monica broke his nose in the sixth Geller Cup on a Thanksgiving long ago. However, they decide to play anyway.
